She had 4 NPs working part time and full time and saw 50-80 patients a day, 5 days a week - much like the minute clinics all over the country. Those are owned by doctors or huge corporations and they are making a fortune with this "retail clinic" idea - all staffed by NPs. I opened my own clinic with an integrative med twist but also with acute care as my bread and butter. I can speak from personal experience - at my last hospitalization the ED PHYSICIAN ordered 5% glucose IV for me - an insulin dependent diabetic when I was transferred to inpatient status! It was the NP who saw me on the floor who changed that order to normal saline. My complaints to hospital staff went unheeded and it was not until the NP saw me that the change was ordered. So much for the claim that it is the MD who makes all the correct decisions! Really, MD does not stand for Major Diety and infallibility is not conferred by a medical degree.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4011144937808023981.post-22281466813947681352013-06-09T14:09:45.164-04:002013-06-09T14:09:45.164-04:00Thank you for writing this post. My CEO cannot find a family practice physician to work in our small town! I've been there for going on 6 years now and have not ever had my boss second guess any of my decisions. If I'm not comfortable with a problem, I have no problem consulting with my collaborating doctor and they often ask my opinion as well. I think the problem is mostly the older docs who don't really understand what we are capable of doing in medical practice.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03879069463960748178noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4011144937808023981.post-43847569863694737672013-03-29T21:59:51.726-04:002013-03-29T21:59:51.726-04:00This is one great step by the nurses so that all t...This is one great step by the nurses so that all the nurses in the world like me have the feeling of security and belongingness.
