Working Together

Here is a great post from a medical student about retail clinics. Here is someone who clearly understands the need the clinics are filling and more importantly (in my opinion), how nurse practitioners are part of that solution. It's good to see such an un-jaded perspective and how we can all work together in today's complex health system.

I am a LPN currently enrolled in RN school. I work for a large HMO. I have been reading about the shortage of medical students going into primary care. Most physician "experts" will not even acknowledge Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants roles in helping with this shortage. I am curious to know how NP's are treated by primary care MD's. We can probably correlate the same reasons for the nursing shortage with the shortage of primary care physicians. Poor pay, stressed working conditions, high patient loads.
