Wonderful job by Dr. Apold, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Nurse Practitioner Association, New York State (The NPA). Dr. Motta of the Massachusetts Medical Society also did a good job for making the case for fully utilizing NPs in the health care system and couldn't give any evidence-based reasons not to.

I am a Nurse Practitioner in Private practice for 10 years. Originally I was skeptical of the push for complete autonomy, however I have become convinced that this is a necesary step. We need to work on this so that we can move forward to require that insurers include NP's on their Provider Panels. Currently GHI a provider that many State employees use refuse to allow treatment by NP's in the area of mental health. This places undue restriction on their members by not allowing them access to NP's and also discriminates against NP's.
